Garmin Fenix 5 Plus Series: New version of the Fenix 5 gama – TOPO U.S. maps, music and more

A year ago Garmin Fenix 5, Fenix 5s and Fenix 5X was presented and launched at Las Vegas. We had the opportunity to chat with Martin from Garmin EMA who showed us the three watches in detail.

Now Garmin launches a new version of the Garmin Fenix 5, the Garmin Fenix 5 Plus with new features like TOPO U.S maps, music and Garmin Pay included.

Let’s first have a look how the “old” Fenix 5 looks like though you have been playing with it for more than a year and then we will introduce the new features of the Fenix 5 Plus.

GARMIN FENIX 5 PLUS: NEW FEATURES

As the previous version, we will have three watches again with the exact same characteristics than before

  • The Fenix 5 comes as the main model, balanced between all extremes.
  • The fēnix 5S is lighter, sleeker and smaller than previous models.
  • The fēnix 5X boasts preloaded wrist-based mapping

Let’s see some of the new features we can find in the Plus series

Mapping and routing: All fēnix 5 Plus series watches now include color TOPO maps with Trendline™ popularity routing for your workouts, rides and adventures. You will be able to connect with billions of miles of Garmin Connect™ data (collected from users like you) which will help you find and follow the best trails and routes. Round-trip Run and Round-trip Ride routing options give you the ability to enter a distance you want to travel and have the watch suggest appropriate courses.

Music: Now you can enjoy your music without the need of your phone. Your watch will save up to 500 songs. You will only need to download your favorite songs to listen them directly through your headphones equipped with Bluetooth® technology at any moment of the day.

Garmin Pay: No cash? No wallet? No problem. All fēnix 5 Plus series watches feature Garmin Pay contactless payment solution. Just set up your fēnix digital wallet in Garmin Connect™, and will be ready to pay for purchases on the go.

Pulse: All fēnix 5 Plus watches have feature Elevate™ wrist-based heart rate. But fēnix 5X Plus also add a wrist-based Pulse Ox sensor to provide awareness of your blood oxygen saturation levels and help monitor how you’re adjusting to your exertions at higher altitudes. Pulse Ox information is overlaid with your elevation history to show how your oxygen saturation compares to your elevation. which is especially useful for higher altitude activities

ClimbPro: The ClimbPro page provides real-time information on current and upcoming climbs. You will be able to the climb gradient, distance and elevation gain for each ascent segment as well as a progress marker that shows how much farther you have to go.

Battery: up to 20 days in smartwatch mode and 13 hours in GPS mode with music (depending on settings)

The fēnix 5 plus and fēnix 5S plus will have a suggested start retail price of $699.99; while the fēnix 5X plus will have a suggested start retail price of $849.99, then you will be able to choose other different options at different prices.
